Having poor Wi-Fi or no internet connection at all will probably get your FOMO off the charts. Being cut off like this from the rest of the world, unable to perform any task online, contact your friends, attend a virtual meeting, (or a wedding, or a funeral. Who knows, these days) Either way, no wifi puts you in a very vexing situation.

If you are facing trouble connecting your phone to the Wi-Fi network, here are a few suggestions that will help you fix this issue.

We must diagnose the problems first, before diving into the different solutions.

Wifi connection problems can be caused by 3 things:

  • Airplane Mode is on (EASY!)
  • The Wi-Fi adapter may be disabled (MEDIUM)
  • IP address or SSID may be invalid or incorrect (EASY with trufyx!)

Let’s fix it!

Here are some tips that you can follow to reconnect to the world again.

Enable the Wi-Fi Adapter

Always verify that your Wi-Fi adapter is enabled. If your phone is in Airplane Mode, it will fail to connect to the Wi-Fi. Turn off the Airplane Mode. To enable the Wi-Fi adapter, select Settings. Tap Wireless & Networks. Swipe the slider to turn the Wi-Fi on. If the Wi-Fi connects, a symbol will appear at the top right corner of the home screen.

Restart the Router

Try restarting the router. Remove the cable from the socket. Plug it back into the socket after 15 seconds. Wait for all the lights to come up and indicate a successful re-connection to wifi on the router. Hopefully, the phone will connect to Wi-Fi now.

Restore the Network Settings

Restart your device and reconnect to Wi-Fi. Restarting the device helps clear the cache glitches.
If your phone still doesn’t connect to Wi-Fi, Reset the Network Settings by tapping into “wifi”, and then clicking “forget”. Once forgotten, connect to Wi-Fi again (make sure you know the password!) – if the issue was caused by a faulty connection, this will fix it by creating a new connection between your phone and the local wifi.

Reconnect to Network

Sometimes the symbol may appear at the top right corner of the home screen, indicating that your phone is connected. But when you try to use the internet, the message ‘failed to connect to the network’ pops up. Try toggling between on/off – if you have more than 1 network available – try another network to see if your phone performs better.
Once successfully connected to another network try connecting to the original network again.

Verify SSID and IP Address

Tap Settings and select Wireless and Networks. In the Wi-Fi panel tap Wi-Fi Settings. Select your network from the list of available networks. If your network does not show up on the list. Access Point might be hiding the SSID. Configure your network manually by tapping the Add Network. If it shows the Connected status, verify the IP address.

You can also use Static IP to solve this issue instead of DHCP. In Wi-Fi settings, tap Menu. Select Advanced Options and tap Use Static IP. For this purpose, you need to contact your Internet Service Provider to obtain the IP address, Gateway, Netmask, DNS 1 and DNS 2.

Factory Reset

The very last resort: if any malware is troubling the system of your phone, then it will not be treated by the above options. You have to backup all your data and then do the factory reset of your phone. Check out our detailed and easy article on how to backup your data.
